@@Dendrimers are highly branched macromolecules characteristic of precisely-controlled molecular and 3-dimentional structures and high density of surface functional groups1, but their syntheses are generally tedious and require extensive purification. In this talk, we report a "brick and mortar" assembly of asymmetrical monomers for efficient dendrimer synthesis. The monomers ABx and CDy are asymmetric in their functional groups' reactivity. A can only react with D and B can only react with C. The A-D and B-C reactions are "click" or close to "click" reactions involving no intermediate reactions such as protection/deprotection and no catalyst. By this way, a dendrimer can be "assembled" simply by sequentially "sticking" ABx and CDy together requiring no or minimal purification. This strategy would greatly speed up the synthesis of the dendrimers and may allow those not experienced in organic synthesis to assemble their "custom-made" dendrimers.
