The linear thermal expansion coefficient α(T) for metallic glasses Zr_(55)Al_(10)Cu_(35-x)Ni_x (x=0 and 10) has been measured from room temperature to 90 K by a standard capacitance technique. The α(T) for two metallic glasses shows similar values and temperature dependence to those of Al and is larger than those of constituent crystalline metals, Zr, Cu and Ni. This may suggest that the thermal expansion is determined by a characteristic amorphous binding. The sample length for metallic glasses shows smooth dependence on temperature.
