This paper presents a methodology to estimate the seasonal energy requirement for cooling (SEC) of different types of A/C systems in different buildings. Two buildings were investigated: a clinic with a part-time occupancy schedule and a private villa with a 24 hour occupancy period. SEC for the two buildings was estimated for a packaged unit (PU) and chilled water system with water-cooled (WC) and air-cooled (AC) condensers. The results show that, the WC system had high SEC compared with the PU system and they were marginally better than the AC system.
