The application of ozone for the treatment of water is widely knownrnand accepted. In the last decade, ozone increasingly is being implementedrncommercially for air treatment odor control (removal of VOCsrnfrom the air), generally in businesses that cater to a smoking clientele,rnincluding bars, restaurants, bowling centers, bingo halls and casinos.rnThis is achieved by injecting ozone into the HVAC system. Ozonernsensors are utilized to ensure that ozone concentration is maintained atrnoptimum levels, and harmful levels are avoided.rnThis paper will focus on casinos, which present a unique challenge:rnlarge spaces, high occupant load, high percentage of smoking customers,rn24-hour, 7-day operation, and huge, highly complex (and widelyrnvarying) HVAC systems. At a national (US) industry average revenuernof $55 per customer per day, loss of even one customer per day to tobaccornodor and visible smoke problems means an annual loss of morernthan $20,000 to a casino. Paybacks for casino ozone systems are typicallyrnless than one year, and casino owners, managers, employees andrncustomers are extremely pleased with the improved air quality.
