What if a meltblown nonwoven could replace "paper"? A natural question to ask again for this joint TAPPI-INDA conference. Robert Buntin of Exxon asked the same question in the late 60's and early 70's looking for applications for a new polymer, polypropylene. Lets look at Meltblown Technology since the 50's and in particular the past three years and see what happened using US Patents as our database and as a window on practical activities. perhaps using Technology forecasting techniques, we can offer some new insights on paper and meltblown technology overlaps-composites.
