Cellulose and is derivatives are semirigid chain polymers~([1]) and Ethyl-cyanoethyl cellulose [(E-CE)C] can form lyotropic liquid crystals in acrylic acid [AA]~([2]) and the cholesteric order can be frzen in by a rapid polmerization of the AA in the solution~([3]). The macromolecular cholesteric structure in the (E-CE)C/AA cholesteric liquid crystalline solutions is studyied by directly observing the morphology and structure of the (E-CE)C/polyacrylic acid [PAA] using electron and atomic force microscopy. A periodical lamellar structure is observed in ultra thin slices of the composites with cholesteric order by both transmission and scanning electron microscopy (TEM and SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM).
