In the application of Electronic Governor for marine diesel engine, the major function is to keep the engine running safely and effectively under the desired revolution for a governor. Due to the vast difference in the engine characteristics, it is needed to individually set the control parameters for each engine. However, the actual setting of the control parameters of the engine in running is rather difficult and time consuming. To solve this problem, we propose a simple and straight forward Unit Step Response Method to obtain the control parameters. The performance is tested through a computer simulation of the dynamic behavior of the engine. Using the proposed method, the setting time of trial and error will be reduced before the governor official operation, and the engine can hopefully run in an optimal and economical environment. This results will then reduce engine the shop trial time and in addition, resulting in the saving manufacturing period and production cost.
