First, we propose a novel poly-Si thin-film photodevice, p/i poly-Si thin-film phototransistor (TFPT). It is found that the photo-induced current is relatively high and independent of the applied voltage. These characteristics are preferable for photosensor applications. Next, we develop an artificial retina using the p/i poly-Si TFPT and poly-Si thin-film transistor (TFT). It is found that the photo-illuminance profile is correctly detected and the output voltage profile is correspondingly output. This artificial retina is expected to be suitable for living bodies because it can potentially be fabricated on the plastic substrate.
