Safety on an edge – A possible organized trade-off between long-term safework performance and regularity in production processes

摘要

This paper discusses a possible trade-off between long-term safe work performance and regularity inrnproduction processes. We claim that systemic relations in an organization may generate a priority ofrnoperational regularity to the expense of the long-term safety level, even though both managers andrnemployees share a commitment towards a priority of safety in preference to production efficiency andrnregularity. The paper discusses systemic factors that may generate such a trade-off. This is followed by arndiscussion of possible conditions that contribute to "overshadowing" the gap between the intentions ofrnmanagers and employees and the long-term effects of their practice.
