The appearance of well-defined steps on vicinal Si (111) surfaces has a very pronounced effect on the rotational anisotropy of the Second Harmonic Generation (SHG) from these surfaces. This effect is related to the lowering of the surface symmetry and an enhancement of the non-linear susceptibility at these steps. In this paper, we present a study of the growth parameters dependence on the optical and magneto-optical response of Au / Co / Au / Cu ultrathin films epitaxied on vicinal Si (111) surfaces, using Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM), linear and non-linear Kerr effect.
