AN ERP IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY AND ITS APPLICATION FOR SMALL MANUFACTURING ENTERPRISES

Many small manufacturing enterprises have to straggle for their survival in nowadays fierce competitions and therefore have no much good idea of how to implementing ERP in their firms. On the other hand many commercial ERP software platforms are too expensive or too complex for small firms to be adopted. This paradox is the case in Peal River Delta Area(PRDA) in China, most rapidly developing manufacturing district in the world.In this paper we analyze the characteristics of small manufacturing firms in PRDA and summarize that data standardization is more important than software system for these enterprises. Based on this we put forward an ERP implementation strategy characterized by its easiness and effectiveness. We then explain the basic functions of the strategy. This strategy not only meet enterprises current needs, but also put a solid foundation for full implementation in enterprise's future development. This strategy has been applied in a home appliances firm and the result is promising.
