SUMMARY OF STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF THE SEAKEEPING MODEL TESTS

This report reviews the statistical analysis of the impact pressure data obtained from the seakeeping model tests. We focus on the strategies used for the analysis and the conclusions reached. Specifically, a generalised Pareto distribution is found to provide a very good representation, over all test conditions and measured impact variables, of the distribution of large impact pressures that exceed a threshold value. Furthermore, for a given measured impact variable, the shape parameter of the generalised Pareto distribution can be treated as being independent of variations in the wave and ship conditions.
