Viaduct Construction in Downtown of Shanghai

摘要

In the past decade, modern and graded trunk road networks have initially been established in the downtown of Shanghai, mainly composed of the viaducts, 3 "S-N" and 3 "E-W" arterial roads, rail transit systems, river-crossings, and expressways. The viaduct network takes the shape of "a ring plus a cross", with a total length of nearly 80km. As is expected, the viaducts are now playing an important role in diversion of the downtown traffic. Introduced in this paper are mainly the scale of the viaduct works in Shanghai, its position and role in the city's fast road network and its prospect.
