This paper presents research into transient response with evidence from an enhanced current-transformer equivalent circuit. It shows the ratios of dynamic errors that occur when measuring the current in relative units; data are provided for various transformer states. The paper describes the peculiarities of transient response as observed when using current transformers with magnetic and nonmagnetic core gaps. Find here guidelines on configuring the current-transformer equivalent circuit elements, with such configuration serving as the input for the equivalent circuit under consideration. The paper presents a mathematical model of current-transformer transient response. The computer model and simulation data analysis have produced a valid finding that using current transformers as primary transducers for relay protection and automation in electric drives is not recommendable.
