Compression failure modes of sandwich panels vary depending on parameters such as relative strength and stiffness of core and faces, dimensions and boundary conditions. In case of throughthe- thickness stitching, stitch material properties, stitching yarn and needle diameter, stitch spacing and stitching angles are additional variables. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, no design criterion or analytical model is available to predict the effect of these parameters on the compression failure modes. This paper aims at developing an analytical model to predict the face wrinkling and overall buckling loads of stitched sandwich panel as a function of the core material, face material and configuration, aspect ratio and stitching related parameters. The model is built upon the unified theory of Benson and Mayer. The analysis calculates the symmetrical and anti-symmetrical buckling loads. The results of the analysis are compared with experiments and Finite Element analysis based on the commercial software ABAQUS.
