In this paper, an isolated dc-dc converter for dc offshore wind farms which combines a voltage-source converter and a current-source converter is proposed. The proposed converter can achieve soft switching inherently on both input and output sides over full power range. Based on the proposed dc-dc converter, a single-stage offshore wind farm configuration which consists of distributed dc platforms can be built up. Compared to the existing offshore wind farm configurations, the proposed concept can achieve lower power-conversion losses, higher power density, and lower investment costs. The validity of the proposed concept is verified by a full-scale simulation of a 640 MW offshore wind farm.
