In this paper, an experimental and numerical evaluation of the impactresponse of ring-stiffened cylinders struck at mid-bay with a masshaving a rigid knife-edge indenter is presented. The experiments aimedat reproducing a collision scenario involving offshore installations withsupply vessels. Dynamic force-displacement curves and strainmeasurements are presented. The results are compared with thenonlinear finite element simulations performed using Abaqus/Explicitsoftware. The numerical simulations accurately predicted the forcedisplacementresponse of the test models. Detailed information on theresponse and the deformation behavior of ring-stiffened cylinders arepresented based on the experimental and numerical results.
