Bluish green-emitting Eu~(2+) -doped barium silicate (Ba_2Si_3O_8:Eu~(2+)) phosphor was synthesized via a solid-state reaction. Ba_2Si_3O_8:Eu~(2+) phosphor could be excited under near-UV wavelengths and exhibited a broad Eu~(2+) emission band. Phosphor-converted light-emitting diodes (pc-LEDs) were fabricated by combining Ba_2Si_3O_8:Eu~(2+) phosphor with a near-UV (400 nm) LED. To fabricate white LEDs with a high color rendering index (CRI), a highly efficient orange-emitting ZnCdSe/ZnSe core/shell quantum dot (QD) was incorporated into the above Ba_2Si_3O_8:Eu~(2+) phosphor-based pc-LED and their electroluminescent (EL) properties are described.
