摘要

For understanding the fracture mechanism of brittle materials,the mixed-mode crack propagationis studied experimentally by the method of caustics in this paper.The method of causticshas been a powerful experimental method to study fracture problems for its high sensitivity andgood accuracy to stress gradient.In order to simulate the fracture problems of geological materials,such as rock,marble etc.,a typical semicircular specimen (SCB) made of PMMA is considered tostudy its mixed-mode crack propagation.The method of caustics is introduced and developed toanalyze the dynamic fracture behavior during the crack growthing process.Firstly,the influenceof different inclined pre-cracks on facture mode conversion of the SCB is discussed.And then,theinteraction between local small hole or damage and crack growthing is observed.Based on theresults of experiments,we can figure out that the fracture mode and crack propagation velocitystrongly depend on the pre-crack location and local damage near the crack growthing path.
