) controller for a hard-to-be-control plant with time delay. FPA searches the 5 appropriate parameters of the controller to meet the response specifications of the plant. Results obtained by this procedure will be compared with those obtained by the conventional controller or integer-order proportional-integralderivative (IOPID or PID) controller or the conventional controller. By comparison of unit step response, the optimal FOPID controller yields very satisfactory responses superior than the IOPID controller with faster response and very small steady-state error. MATLAB and FOMCON programs are used to conduct this research.
