An automatic power factor control system of an industrial electric distribution system is proposed in the article. The system purpose is to maintain the daily values of the power factor on the distribution system within the limits established by the electrical energy provider. The distribution system includes a power transmission line, power transformer, synchronous motor, asynchronous load, and capacitor bank. A mathematical model of the distribution system is considered in terms of the power factor control. The proposed control system structure with a non-linear control algorithm features time programming of the setpoint value of the distribution system reactive power coefficient during the hours of high and low daily loads. The system structure has internal feedback control circuits of synchronous motor excitation current and reactive power. A model of the distribution system is presented, on the basis of which a linear control system is developed. The characteristics of nonlinear elements of the automatic control system are constructed and their parameters are determined. The system estimation of constant position error is given. The control system has been verified using MATLAB/Simulink simulation model. The proposed reactive power coefficient control system can be effectively used in industrial distribution systems operating with a significantly variable power consumption mode incorporating high power synchronous drive.
