The optimum condition for preparing the carbonate-containing hydroxyapatite (CHA) powder through chemical bath deposition was established, and the coating of C-C composites with the CHA was studied. The preparation condition of CHA was as follows; obtaining the crystalline precipitates by refluxing the precursor solution at its boiling point for 42h and then heating at 600℃ for 1h in air. On the obtained CHA sample, the carbonate was observed in the sample, which was replaced with PO43- site in the crystal structure. The concentration of ions, such as Ca2+ and p5+, eluted from CHA decreased with the increase in the reflux time of precursor solution; that is, it was found that the increase of carbonate in CHA reduced the elution of these ions from CHA By refluxing the precursor solution for 60h, the chemical composition of CHA approached that of high-purity hydroxyapatite. By chemical bath deposition based on the optimum condition, CHA was successfully deposited on the surface of C-C composite. The adhesive tape was bonded to the composites with CHA and then pulled from its surface. However, the CHA did not come off. It seemed to firmly adhere in the interface between CHA and composite.
