Industry standards for shielded medium voltage power cables, 5nthrough 46 kV, have recently been revised, changing the direct currentntest voltages for field tests and test durations, and limiting tests tonnewly installed cables. The following industry groups' specificationsnand standards provide different guidelines for DC field tests forncross-linked polyethylene and ethylene propylene rubber insulatedncables: Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE);nInsulated Cable Engineers Association (ICEA); and the Association ofnEdison Illuminating Companies (AEIC). These specifications and standardsnare discussed showing the differences in the recommendations and why thendifferences exist. The conclusion provides a guide for the DC fieldntesting of shielded medium voltage power cables based on these industrynstandards
