Emerging issues related to foreign direct investment for the development of the non-mitallic mineral sector in the asia pacific region

The development of the non-metallic mineral sector in the countries of the Asia Pacific region is of vital importance to sustain mineral based industries such as ceramics, cement, fertiliser, paint, and refractories. Accordingly, every effort is being made by these countries in evaluating the resource potential of non-metallic minerals, keeping in mind a sustainable supply. In the this regard, the private sector has been identified as a major catalyst and most countries in the regon are presently reviewing their legal, fiscal, and regulatory frameworks in promoting forgien direct investment. This paper will identify the emerging issues related to capital flows from the private sector and the efforts of the countries in the region in resolving these issues.
