The behavior of indoor viable particles relevant to a pet was studied from the viewpoint of architectural hygiene.The viable particle relevant to a pet is classified into two kinds, pathogenic organ from a pet and pet allergen. This paper reports the results obtained by investigations about Pasteurella which is a pathogenic organ of Pasteurellosis, dog allergen Can f1 and cat allergen Fel d1, etc. in eight dwellings including six object dwellings in which dog and/or cat being allowed indoors in Tokyo area. Pasteurella and pet allergen was quantified by biochemical and immunology method, respectively. The relationship between suspended particles and airborne Fel d1 was also be studied. Three species called P. canis, P. dagmatis, or P. multocide were isolated from the oral cavity of dogs or cats. Dust allergen Can f1 and Fel d1 ranged in 1-1000 μg/g and 100-5000 μg/g respectively in six object dwellings. The concentration of airborne Fel d1 of object dwellings ranged from 10 to 100 ng/m3. There was a significant relationship between suspended particulate concentration larger than 5μm in diameter and airborne Fel d1 (P<0.01). From this result, it was guessed that the reduction method for coarse particle contamination, such as using an air cleaner in a dwelling, is also effective to pet allergen particles.
