METROLOGY RELIABILITY IN THE BRAZILIAN HEALTH SECTOR: ASTUDY CASE IN THE PUBLIC HEALTH CARE AND METROLOGICALCONTROL OF HOSPITAL MEDICAL EQUIPMENT

The present paper is related to laboratoryquality in the Brazilian health care sector in general and topublic health services in particular. Its purpose is tocontribute to the development of reliable measurementpractices in the hospital care section within the scope of atleast 4 basic aspects: (I) identification of the availablemetrology legislation in Brazil which, as a rule, is sparselyorganized and is not easily accessible to the enduser/practitioner, whose bibliographical research reveals anexplicit lack of specialized literature; (ii) analysis of thecompiled measurement standards and recommendations forthe sector; (iii) diagnosis of laboratory quality in CentralPublic Health Care Laboratories as a means by which toimplement an alternative strategy for introducing a qualitysystem in a public health care laboratory based on a newapproach that focuses on the quality of the laboratories thatcomprise the National Network of Official Quality andHealth Care Control Laboratories; (iv) diagnosis ofinstruments that are employed in hospital services in termsof their conformity to measurement standards based on casestudies of scales for controlling the mass of neonates, and ofbiomedical instruments for measuring blood pressure.
