Improving Service in Healthcare Inpatient Processes

Inpatient processes have come under review due to delays and the need for more effective use of resources. Statistical analysis and simulation modeling are instrumental tools in determining the bottlenecks that afflict such systems. These to tools are also used to explore alternative ways of scheduling resources to meet the ever increasing demands being placed on such systems. A study is being conducted at the James A. Haley Veteran's Affairs' Hospital in Tampa, Florida. Interdepartmental dependencies and patient flow characteristics are being investigated to understand the underlying system complexities, with the objective of improving the system performance.
