A Highly Sensitive SERS Device Based on a PDMS-CVD Prepared Substrate

In this work, a superhydrophobic surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate is prepared using a polydimethylsiloxane chemical vapor deposition (PDMS-CVD) approach. By rolling an analyte droplet on the substrate, metal-oligomer nanoparticles (MONs) can be grabbed into the droplet and mixed with analyte molecules. In this way, a SERS droplet which has a 27 times higher enhancement factor than the pristine SERS substrate is obtained. Moreover, after the droplet is evaporated, the molecules and MONs can enrich at a tiny spot, thus 3D distribution of hot-spots and probes is formed for further SERS detections with even higher sensitivity. It is expected that the device be widely used for trace analysis in the future.
