A built-in spindle was designed and tested. The spindle contained two hydrostatic thrust bearings and two hydrostatic journal bearings. These bearings were all orifice-compensated. The variation in the thickness of the fluid film in hydrostatic bearing was simulated by solving Reynolds equation with finite difference method to evaluate the performance of these hydrostatic bearings. We applied radial load on the shaft and then measured the recess pressure and displacements to evaluate the performance of hydrostatic bearings. Finally, a conclusion was drawn based on comparisons of the experimental results and simulation results.
