Bahrain MSF experience shaping future trends

Thermal processes continue to be the preferred choice for seawater desalination, more so, if it can be coupled with a power plant. MSF continues to be the mainstay for large scale desalination. Even though the capital cost for MSF plant is falling, there is still scope for further reduction with the development of superior corrosion resistant materials and research into the fine tuning of the process itself. The operating experience from Sitra desalination plant is described, with emphasis on corrosion and scale control. This learning experience has played an invaluable role in the decision making regarding the various aspects of desalination plants in Bahrain.
