THE ANALYSIS OF DIESEL ENGINE PERFORMANCE USING COAL OIL MIXTURE (COM)

Coal oil mixture (COM) is a combination of coal and petroleum to produce liquid fuel which the character approachingrndiesel oil. As an alternative fuel, the use of COM related to the properties and the diesel engine performance need to bernfurther analyzed. In this study, the coal used is low rank coal which added by xylene and toluene additives and thenrnmixed with marine diesel oil (MDO). The ratio of MDO: coal: additive used is 50:10:10 to produce the optimal liquidrncoal. As the comparison of COM, MDO and HFO will be tested. The results of this study show that COM can be used inrndiesel engine and have the potential characteristic to be developed as an alternative fuel, even though the diesel enginernperformances including power, SFOC and thermal efficiency by using MDO are better than COM due to the bigger ofrnheat release rate and the shorter ignition delay.
