Abstract: The imagers in tethered digital video cameras usually produce color interlaced data output in a line by line format. To transfer and convert the data into computer in a meaningful format that software applications could handle, various algorithms and their implementations have been employed. This paper discusses the tradeoff between data throughput and image quality in tethered camera design, and proposes a system structure and its compression algorithm for low-end PC video conferencing cameras. !5
