Rules of Thumb in Well Testing—What Works and Doesn’t Work and Why

Rules of thumb appear in every profession. They aredeveloped when practitioners observe a repeated causeand effect relationship. This paper presents some rulesof thumb used by practitioners in well testing, examinestheir validity and limits and, in some cases, developstheir theoretical basis. The paper is presented as aforum for discussion among well testing practitioners.
