Reducing Analysis Costs: Development and Adoption of a ilylation Only Sugar Analysis for Cane Payment Purposes

A sucrose based cane payment system was introduced into the South African sugar industry in the 1982-83 season. Hourly composite samples of mixed juice are sub-sampled and quickly frozen at -40℃. The samples are composited and analysed on a weekly basis using a gas chromatographic (GC) method to determine the glucose, fructose and sucrose content.
