Increasingly there has been a trend towards increasing quality in the commodity bulk solids industry in order to maintain a competitive advantage. One area of concern is that materials produced from heating, drying or crystallisation are caking during storage and transport to such an extent that quality and handling properties are compromised. This paper focuses on caking caused by moisture migration within stored bulk solids and discusses possible methods for assessing the caking tendencies of such systems.
