STEAM INJECTED TURBO-CHARGED SYSTEM OF A MARINE DIESEL

During the part load operation of a turbo-charged diesel there will emerge such intrinsic characteristics as an inadequate supercharged pressure, a reduced excess-air coefficient for combustion and a relatively high exhaust gas temperature. The authors have proposed a new method for improving the matching of a turbo-charger and a diesel, thus enhancing the diesel performance. This method involves the use of the waste heat of supercharger exhaust gas to produce steam, which is injected into a turbine to increase the pressure ratio and the airflow rate of the supercharger. Test results have confirmed the effectiveness of the recommended method.
