Common operating problems in commercial Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) catalyst strippers are reviewed. These include flooding, large-scale maldistribution and "bridging." Examples of these problems and diagnostic methods used to detect them are provided. Results from cold flow and commercial testing of hardware technologies recently developed by Mobil and M. W. Kellogg to overcome these problems are also presented, including FLUX TUBE ~(TM) stripper technology which eliminates flooding.
