SOCIOECONOMIC CHARACTERISTICS, LAND USE AND TRAVEL PATTERNS IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY

1. Expected population and employment growth in Los Angeles County and the City of Los Angeles by 2020 will exacerbate existing transportation and transit system. Since freeways are built out in Los Angeles, new methods to provide mobility and accesses are to be developed, including methods to change travel behavior. 2. One solution would be to restructure existing transit services to support multi-center hubs and find ways to increase ridership. Also, to effectively utilize the existing transportation network of major arterials and highways throughout the County to improve transit mobility. Any solution to the Los Angeles transportation system should include a more effective use of this transportation investment. 3. Flexible transportation funds are required to provide required infrastructure and services and also to maintain the existing infrastructure. Also, Cooperation among various agencies is required to share transportation funds and resources to build an efficient transportation and transit system based on long-term needs. 4. There is a need to set aside funds for education, training and operation, and maintenance of investments. Sharing of information among agencies is more vital than ever to provide feasible solutions and to be cost-effective. 5. Advanced technology should be used to provide information, mobility and accessibility in many areas of transportation. All transportation projects also should address the issue of clean environment for its citizens.
