Socio-Economic Characteristics, Land Use and Travel Patterns

Osaka City is located in the central part of Japan. The city is bordered to the west by Osaka Bay and to the south and the north by Yamato and Kanzaki Rivers, respectively. The city serves as business center for the western part of the country as well as Osaka metropolitan area, which includes Kyoto, Kobe and Nara, covering the area within a radius of 50 km from the city. The city now covers an area of 220.66 km~2, including newly reclaimed off shore lands. Most of the urban area is flat land, some 3 m above sea level.
