The method involves determining individual target time of a motor vehicle from a starting point to a target point of a roadway (110), and determining travel characteristics data associated to the individual travel time, where the data includes travel rates at the starting point. Average travel time for the detected data is determined from the individual travel time associated to the respective datum. An estimated travel time is predicted based on the actual detected travel characteristics datum and the average travel time associated to the actual detected travel characteristics datum. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program product with a program code unit for executing an estimated travel time determining method (2) a device for determining an estimated travel time comprising an interface for detecting individual travel time from a starting point to a target point.
