Electro-catalysts for oxygen reduction in the polymer electrolyte fuel cell including Pt and its alloys, transition metal macrocycles either unpyrolyzed or pyrolyzed, transition phthalocyanine complexes such as CoPc, CoPcTc, CoTPP, FeTPP etc. were reviewed. A new kind of catalyst, PDS, was synthesized and characterized, and the mechanism of combination of PDS with oxygen was further studied. The catalytic activity of PDS for the oxygen reduction is better than the transition phthalocyanine complexes.
