Micro Metal Injection Moulding (μMIM) reaches growing interest in industry. As the trend in miniaturisation drives the need for cost effective series production, μMIM is able to provide a solution. Due to the application of fine metal powders, it is possible to create metallic micro structures on surfaces and to manufacture miniature parts in a wide variety of materials. After presenting the current status of the micro part production by μMIM, new developments show the possibility to avoid assembly steps in micro technology. For miniaturisation, especially assembly is a very difficult task. Here, in-process joining and co-sintering open up completely new possibilities. Examples for combining parts consisting of the same material as well as for co-sintering of different materials are shown. The material combination of magnetic and non-magnetic steels allows the manufacturing of micro sensors for various applications.
