摘要

The diamond tools are currently used for cutting and surface processing operations of lithoid materials. This paper deals with a study on the mechanical properties of commercially available NEXT systems currently used for diamond segments fabrication. The interplay of hardness, toughness and wear resistance has been investigated. The analysis of this set of properties as function of the chemical composition and of the powder mixture can clearly show which are the optimum design solutions to work with the different lithoid materials, such as marble, granite, etc. The properties of the binder phase have been evaluated in diamonds free segments, focusing only on the matrix structure. The wear resistance of the segments has been assessed through a slurry abrasion test rig, where conditions of wet wear can be imposed to simulate the operating conditions in cutting of lithoid materials.
