Metal implants coated with bioactive layers of calcium phosphate are extremely interesting in orthopedic and dental practice. The best results have been obtained for steel or titanium implants with layers of hydroxyapatite (HA) Ca_(10)(PO_4)_6OH_2, and its mixtures with tricalcium phosphate (TCP) Ca_3(PO_4)_2. Nowadays, many studies are carried out to improve the bioactive properties of HA. One way is chemical modification of apatite. Ion of silicon oxide SiO_4~(4-) is suggested to be a possible modifier of synthetic hydroxyapatite [1]. The aim of this study is to deposit silicon-containing calcium phosphate (Si-CaP) coatings by rf-magnetron sputtering and determine these coatings response to simulated body fluid (SBF).
