Development history, specifications, and case studies of Polyester Polymer Concrete for bridge deck protection

A non-proprietary overlay system based on polyester resin concrete was developed by Caltrans in the 1980's and has been used successfully on many mainline bridges. Polymer resin and graded aggregates are mixer-blended and paved to a fixed grade. Very rapid setting properties allow for installation during short off-peak lane closures. Its use has continued to grow in California and several very large deck overlays were recently completed on major San Francisco Bay crossings.
