The paper develops a general method of estimating the static and dynamic load sharing among meshing tooth pairs in spur gears. The effects of the mesh stiffness and the tooth profile errors upon sharing loads were studied at various loads. The dynamic model is assumed to be a single degree of freedom system. The time-varying mesh stiffness along the path of contact is found by using an exact analytical model. The complicated phenomenon of contact tooth pairs alternation during mesh cycle is also included in the model. The effect of the pinion speed is included in the dynamic analysis.
