A Tribological Method for Evaluating Mechanical Properties of Material Surface

摘要

The single pendulum impact scratch device with high precision system in measuring normal and tangential forces as well as impact energy dissipation during scratching has been established. For evaluation of various mechanical properties in surface of engineering materials such as adhesion and cohesion strength of reinforced composites, dynamic hardness and elastic modulus of sub-surface etc., a new tribological method has been described. A series of criteria for evaluating dynamic behaviors have been suggested. Several surface coatings, reinforced composites and some typical metals or alloys have been tested. The experimental results and discussion show that the principal advantages of this device over other friction and wear apparatus are the engineering imitation of impact loading and the information of energy consumption in scratching.
