The MATE Marine Technical Internship Program: Providing students with the necessary experiences to become employable in the marine workforce

The Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Center Marine Technical Internship Program prepares community college and university students for the marine technology workforce. The program is designed to take students out of academia and into "real world" career experiences in marine technology where they can develop the skills necessary to become readily employable in the marine workforce. Since the inception of the program, 194 students have been placed in at-sea and shore-based internships with more than thirty companies. Eighty-three MATE interns have gone on to work for organizations such as Science Applications International Corporation, Oceaneering International and the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, helping to address the increasing demand for qualified professionals to support the marine workforce.
