'Nanomaterials by Design' has been identified as a key strategic priority, both by industry and government. It has been declared as one of nine 'Grand Challenges' by the US National Nanotechnology Initiative, and is the topic of a major report of the US Chemical Industry Vision2020 Technology Partnership. The report provides a roadmap for taking nanotechnology from its current scientific discovery stage to an engineering discipline, in order to deliver on its economic promises. Modeling, Simulations and Informatics are identified as fundamental to the strategy and implementation of the 'Nanomaterials by Design' vision.rnThe presentation will briefly discuss the status, use and development of software tools in Accelrys' Materials Studio software environment to support a rational nanomaterials design strategy in academia and industry.rnFollowing on, the new Accelrys Nanotechnology Consortium will be outlined, an Accelrys initiative aimed at driving forwarded Computer-Aided Nanotechnology (CAN). The Nanotechnology Consortium brings together leading experts, academic, government and commercial organizations worldwide.
