The Zyvex nanomanipulator systems have positioning capability down to 5 nanometers and can be used with electron, confocal, and optical microscopes. With the addition of end effectors such as microgrippers and nanoprobes, a variety of life science applications exist, including biomaterials characterization, cellular manipulation, and intracellular recording. Biomaterials such as individual collagen fibrils can be grasped, manipulated, and mechanically characterized. Individual cells can be picked out of a population of cells and placed into a desired environment to perform single cell assays. Nanoprobes can be used as electrodes and accurately positioned within a single cell to achieve intracellular recording.
